Project Background

KSB, a global leader in pump and valve technology, required a robust storage solution to support their mining and industrial pump servicing operations across Western Australia. With critical spares essential for keeping remote sites operational, the team needed a centralized storage hub that could deliver parts rapidly on demand. The primary goal was eliminating the “time cost” that plagued daily operations—technicians were losing valuable hours searching for components scattered across a large warehouse floor, delaying urgent service responses.

Constraints

The project carried critical constraints that demanded a carefully engineered solution. High-value mechanical seals and heavy pump components required secure, dust-free storage to maintain integrity and prevent contamination that could compromise performance in demanding mining environments. Physical space presented an additional challenge—the system needed to fit within a designated service bay without obstructing overhead crane movements essential for handling large pump assemblies. Every millimeter of vertical clearance and floor positioning had to be precisely calculated to ensure seamless coexistence with existing workshop operations.

Implementation

The implementation delivered a powerful dual-machine solution tailored to KSB’s demanding operational requirements. Two Vertical Lift Modules were installed, establishing an efficient “Goods-to-Person” workflow that brings parts directly to technicians rather than sending them searching across the warehouse floor. To handle the substantial weight of pump components and mechanical seals, heavy-duty trays were configured throughout both units. This robust setup accommodates high-density metal components and specialized service kits, ensuring even the heaviest items are stored securely and retrieved effortlessly when needed.
