Project Background
Hidrive, a specialist in service body manufacturing, faced mounting operational challenges with their existing storage setup. Specialized components critical to production were scattered across decentralized locations, creating inefficiencies that slowed workflows and increased the risk of costly stock-outs. The team needed a secure, organized storage solution—one that would consolidate inventory into a single, controlled system while protecting high-value parts from damage or loss. Streamlining access and visibility became essential to maintaining production schedules and meeting customer demand.

Constraints
The project presented unique constraints that demanded a robust, purpose-built solution. Heavy-duty parts used in service body manufacturing required a storage system with exceptional weight-bearing capacity per tray—capable of handling dense, oversized components without compromising structural integrity. Security was equally critical. High-value tools and specialized equipment needed protection from theft, unauthorized access, and misplacement. The ideal system had to deliver both strength and controlled access, ensuring valuable inventory remained secure while staying readily available for production teams.
Implementation
The implementation transformed workshop operations with the installation of three automated storage units, strategically positioned to serve as the “central nervous system” of the facility. These units centralized all critical components, eliminating scattered storage points and creating a single source of truth for inventory. To enhance security and accountability, electronic access control was integrated throughout the system—enabling management to track part usage by individual employee, reduce shrinkage, and gain valuable insights into consumption patterns and restocking needs.
